Esther Appleyard
Abstract Artist

Esther graduated from Winchester School of Art in 1999 with a BA (hons) in Textile Art. Since then she has been a practicing visual artist with a studio in Hastings. She has exhibited in a number of settings including commercial galleries, hospitals and municipal museums in Kent, Sussex, Cambridgeshire and London. Esther recently had a successful show at Worcester City Art Gallery. She says:

"My practice is based around genetics. I am interested in the faults that occur within structures and use photography and digital prints to explore this. I then paint onto these prints demonstrating the conflict between the random and the controlled mark. My work is colourful and decorative but this seductive surface hides more difficult issues around genetic screening. I have a genetically inherited condition which shapes my life experiences and perceptions. My work aims to demonstrate that these differences are beautiful and interesting."
