Mike Fryer
Painter
British born artist, Mike Fryer, has established a reputation for innovation and the quality of his paintings and prints over the last 20 years. His training includes a year's residency at London Print Studio. In 2007 he had five exhibitions including a very successful solo exhibition at Hall Place and was selected for the first 'ko-ax' exhibition at Mascalls Gallery. He has also had a joint exhibition in Cherkassy in the Ukraine showing ten abstract works. Mike's work is held in private and corporate collections. He is disabled with osteogenesis imperfecta (Brittle Bones) and uses a wheelchair.
Mike says: "I am excited by colour and feel exhilarated as I handle paint - pure plastic colour! I use colour as a means of expressing my excitement and sense of joy about the Creation all around me - I paint mostly landscapes and abstracts inspired by life in all its glorious colour and vitality. My paintings are mostly acrylic on canvas although I also paint on board or paper and in oil or watercolour.
My method in landscape painting is to simplify form and to harmonise colour over the flat surface. The observed colour of objects may be changed or heightened and the harmony is created by the careful placement of complementary and contrasting colours. My abstract work includes a method of painting I have been developing called 'abstract graphism' whereby a written text or emotion is represented by graphical and colour elements that can be 'read' to discover the underlying meaning."
