Olivier Jamin
Abstract Artist
Olivier Jamin was born in 1977 in Angers in France and is deaf. He studied at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston where he gained two BA degrees in Jewellery and Tableware which inspired his passion for pattern and detail.
Following university, Olivier went to the Kitengela Glass Studios in Kenya where he worked with 60 people in the studio workshops. He developed his understanding of glass techniques including handmade glass beads, stained glass, and blown hotglass. He gained experience about Kenyan culture, which inspired his work.
In 2005 at the University of Bristol Centre for Access and Communication Studies Olivier participated in the 'Take A New Look: Deaf Graduates into Employment' scheme. In 2007 he began training in London as an advisor and mentor to support people with disability in their Art careers.
In November 2007 Olivier exhibited at the Deaf Cultural Centre in Birmingham. He has also had a number of solo exhibitions at the Red Dot Gallery in Luton, Waterstone's bookshop in Nottingham, The Gallery at Luton Central Library and the Courtyard Gallery at Port Vale in Hertfordshire. He has also been part of a group exhibition at ICI in London.
Since joining Gig-Arts Artists in 2008, Olivier exhibited at BT Wholesale's corporate offices in London which led to him being featured in the BBC 'See Hear' television programme.
