Steve Cole
Master Craftsman
Steve Cole trained as a theatrical prop maker in the 1970's and has made scenery for many West End theatre productions including Phantom of the Opera. He has worked in film and television display and has produced many varied objects for the entertainment business.
Steve's work is incredibly varied: One week he can be making a 10' high fiberglass guitars the next he could be making a giant tree and an aircraft for Hamley's toy shop. In 2007, he made a 26' high fiberglass statue to promote the Tutankhamen exhibition in London. It was fitted it on a barge and sailed down the river Thames The port of London opened Tower Bridge to let it through - it made news around the world!
Steve also makes star handprints for Wembley Arena where he has worked with Madonna, George Michael, Status Quo and Kylie Minogue. However, his most prestigious project was in 2002 when he made a pair of 16' high giant electric guitars and a giant lion and unicorn which featured on stage at Her Majesty the Queen's Party in the Park at Buckingham Palace for the Golden Jubilee celebrations
Recently, Steve has worked with sculptor, Anthony Gormley, making casts of his bodies in fiberglass. Steve is an excellent teacher and communicator and runs mould making workshops at his studio. He also believes that it is important to try and make a difference by doing something practical to help others.
