Martin Boroson
Martin Boroson brings fresh insights and profound wisdom to help us make practical, meaningful changes in life and work.
Martin has spent over thirty years helping individuals and organisations make meaningful change.
His deep commitment to the search for wisdom, and his experience in a wide range of fields, gives him a unique perspective as a speaker.
Martin's career began at the age of twelve when he formed an organisation just for people too young to vote - using volunteer power to tip the balance in several local elections. At the age of sixteen, Martin became a Legislative Aide to the New York State Assembly. But at eighteen, curious about the ideas behind his activism, he gave up politics to study philosophy at Yale University. He then went to the Yale School of Management, but after earning his MBA, set out to balance the analytic approaches to management with the insight skills of psychotherapy, the wisdom traditions, and the arts. He trained with Dr. Stanislav Grof, one of the foremost experts on human consciousness, and qualified as a psychotherapist. He set up a production company that won three-year funding from the Arts Council of Ireland to develop "innovation and excellence" in the training of artists. His company also produced a five-year multimedia project in collaboration with the Kyoto Performing Arts Centre - described as "visionary" by The Irish Times - inspired by Japanese arts and the work of Georgia O'Keeffe.
Martin now brings these diverse approaches together in his work as an author, speaker and facilitator. He has developed a holistic model of decision-making, The Wisdom Decision, which he has taught at the University of Exeter's Centre for Leadership Studies, at the Irish Management Institute, and to senior managers from Dell, Intel, Statoil, and Accenture. In public workshops and employee education programmes, he has coached thousands of people through personal and professional breakthroughs. He co-organised and facilitated the Walk Your Talk conference for the Social Venture Network and the International Conference on Organizational Spirituality for the University of Surrey School of Management.
Martin has recently distilled many years of meditation practice into a simple, short and powerful method of 'momentary meditation,' described in his new book, The One-Moment Master: Stillness for People on the Go. He has taught this technique to management consultants at Roffey Park Institute, executive coaches, senior managers, and in numerous public lectures, leadership seminars, and media appearances.
For Martin's recent appearance on The Derek Mooney Show on Irish national radio, he convinced the producers to have thirty seconds of total silence - live on air. Listeners from all over Ireland stopped driving, stopped working, and sat quietly, in order to participate in this 'national moment of stillness'. Afterward, the station was inundated with enthusiastic phone calls, texts and emails. Said Mooney the following day: "The whole nation was enthralled."
